AllCast works with Chromecast again, streams local media from Android to TV

After losing Chromecast support last August, AllCast is back thanks to the new Chromecast SDK. With it, you can stream local photos, videos and music from an Android device to your Chromecast over Wi-Fi.
With Google releasing the official Chromecast SDK to developers on Monday, we can expect an influx of Chromecast apps to follow. And among the first is AllCast, which actually had and later lost Chromecast support last year because the SDK wasn’t yet final. The Android app was quickly updated on Tuesday morning in the Google Play store.
Developer Koushik Dutta, also known as “Koush,” explained in a Google+ post how easy it was to make the update for his app, which already supported streaming from Android to Xbox, Apple TV, Roku and other devices:
“+John Affaki from the Google Chromecast team poked me 30 minutes ago to readd Chromecast support. I was going to put it off until this weekend, but he indicated with the existing AllCast design, it would be almost no extra code on my part. He was right.
The implementation was very trivial. Took me maybe 20 minutes.”
With the updated AllCast app now available, you can now stream locally stored images, videos and music from an Android device to a Chromecast as Koush shows in this demonstration video.

Note, you’ll need Google Play Services 4.2 for AllCast to work with a Chromecast; Google began pushing that out to Android phones on Monday.
